Foster Grandparent Program

“As a Foster Grandparent, you’re a role model, a mentor, and a friend”

When you share your love, time, and experience, you have the power to help a child who needs you. If you’re 55 or over, and want to share your experience and compassion, then you have what it takes to be a Foster Grandparent.

Tiesha Watson | Foster Grandparent Director

Foster Grandparents work in a variety of local programs and serve up to 20 hours per week in Head Start programs or public schools.

As a Foster Grandparent, you’ll receive pre-service orientation, training from the organization where you serve, and supplemental accident and liability insurance while on duty.

The Foster Grandparent Program is part of the Corporation for National and Community Service and is sponsored locally by CASC. We serve Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester Counties.

* Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. has proclaimed April 7, 2015 as “National Service Recognition Day” in the City of Charleston, encouraging residents to recognize the positive impact of national service in our city and thank those who serve; and to find ways to give back to their communities. If you or your organization would like to contribute to our program, please contact Melissa Gilsoul at 843.722.4127 or email:

And remember: our volunteers are helping others—and enriching their own lives in the process!

Volunteering often leads to new discoveries and new friends. Studies show that volunteering helps you live longer and promotes a positive outlook on life.
